The Sam Stoll Story:
Sam comes from a family where community service to clubs was a normal part of life in the Barossa, with a laugh in one hand and a glass in the other (Mrs Verna Kellett – Sam’s maternal grandmother was the driving force behind the Senior Club person Award), they simply find a way to complete many tasks, always with a sense of good fun.
We have all seen the many faces of Stolly along the years, from Curly hair to Green hair to Spiky hair to Blonde hair to No hair. Sam has always been the life of the party.
He played some junior hockey for NHC but illness and injuries had a major impact on his hockey development.
Sam came of age late in 1992 when he became a vital part of the forward line, coming off the bench to give some real punch to a tiring team. Sam along with team mates, celebrated his 18th birthday on Grand Final day with a few beers and a Premiership medal.
A change of coach in 1994 was the making of Sam as the player that we all became so impressed with – he became a half back, in the engine room where he was later to excel.
Sam played A-Grade for almost 20 years, coaching consecutive premierships in 2004 & 2005 and receiving the 2006 NHC A-Grade Best & Fairest. He was instrumental in lifting the standard of fitness, behaviour, and intensity within the player group. Sam was also selected in the BVHA Team of the Year many times, and was a massive force in playing for the BVHA in Country Championships. He was also a regular selection in the State Country Men’s Team.
Sam became enormously involved in club management from the late 90’s where he held a number of executive positions including the Presidency for 2006 & 2007. He grew the Sponsorship base for 5 years and was a major part of the club for almost a decade.
Sam is a natural leader where his energy, enthusiasm and sense of good fun becomes infectious, he just knows how to get others involved to get things done.
Sam Stoll has been a wonderful servant to our club for over 2 decades. Thanks for the memories Stolly.
