The Bev Grocke Story:
Bev came to Nuriootpa as an accomplished player and had an immediate impact on the Club.
She was heavily involved in the Social part of the club and also assisted in many fundraising activities such as Vintage Festival and Saturday morning trading tables in front of the old Co-op store.
Bev, along with many others were there regularly raising important funds in order for our club to grow.
Bev threw herself into the playing program by coaching the Blue Women’s team in 1981 & 1982.
From a decade of playing, 150 A-Grade Games, Bev played in 3 Premierships and she was awarded the BVHA Best & Fairest in 1987.
However, as a Nuriootpa player, Bev had few peers, she was unbelievably polished in all areas of the game, but she also had a wonderful sense of fair play in a time when how you conducted yourself as a player was important.
These were different hocket times in the Barossa, when the opposition was given way more respect, and how players were perceived was vitally important.
Bev’s ability was rewarded with 6 NHC Best & Fairest in a row.
In 2013, the Club committee recognised this wonderful achievement by naming the A-Grade Women’s Best & Fairest, The Bev Klemm Medal.
